UN launches a group to scrutinize “Net Zero” pledge progress

Here’s a note from Raz Godelnik about this Reuters article noting that the UN has launched a group to hold companies accountable for their Net Zero pledges:
I’m not sure how a group of 16 experts that “will analyze net-zero plans of companies…to develop stringent & transparent standards to ensure they deliver their promises” can add much value here as there are already some organizations doing it (see the latest example).
If the U.N. wants to be helpful, promoting regulation (national and regional) with teeth requiring companies to adopt net-zero plans aligned with the Net-Zero Standard (https://lnkd.in/dmkyr4vq) could be a good start.
