EU’s classification project for sustainable activities still a mess

This note by Kim Schumacher updates us on the zaniness over the EU’s taxonomy over the efforts to create an EU-wide classification system for sustainable activities:

Shame on the #EU and those enabling or defending this massive #greenwashing exercise, which will lead to such a profound loss of credibility for #sustainablefinance and #esginvesting that those pushing false narratives around “climate neutral” fossil fuels will have a field day. This is not merely an imperfect compromise, but a very material scientific and legal #sustainability disaster.

The sentence below (directly copied from the #eutaxonomy press release) should be a warning that #science, #climate, and #environment are the right words regarding the #taxonomy, but only actions give them meaning, and today the #EU unfortunately stands on the wrong side of history:

“The criteria for the specific gas and nuclear activities are in line with EU climate and environmental objectives and will help accelerating the shift from solid or liquid fossil fuels, including coal, towards a climate-neutral future.”
