The latest “new director” trends

Here’s the latest survey from Heidrick & Struggles – it covers the latest trends in board nominations for the Fortune 500. The findings include:

– Number of new directors declined from a peak of 467 in 2019 to 386 in 2023.
– Percentage of new women directors increased to 43% of all board seats, from 40% the prior year.
– New directors with no prior public company board experience declined to 33%.
– Percentage of new directors in active executive roles remained stable at 59%.
– New directors with CEO experience declined slightly to 42%, but new directors with CFO experience hit a record high of 23%.
