Are top-rated ESG companies more likely to be tax avoiders?

Here’s a teaser about this blog noted by David Carlin:
A thought-provoking piece of research examined the relationship between ESG scores and tax avoidance, finding that some of the highest-scoring firms pursue the most aggressive tax avoidance strategies. Here’s why that matters: if corporate ESG actions are seeking to remedy policy and societal failures, firms that are avoiding taxes may be exacerbating the problems their ESG activities are seeking to solve by putting national and local governments in ever more precarious financial positions from which they are less able to sustainability meet the needs of citizens. This risks creating a vicious cycle.
