A “Sustainable Value Creation Map”
Here’s a note from Antonio Vizcaya Abdo:
The Sustainable Value Creation Map (SVCM) is a structured tool designed to align sustainability efforts with business strategy and performance. It provides a clear visualization of how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors contribute to value creation through cause-and-effect linkages across a company’s operations.
The framework starts with Resources and Capabilities, such as employee engagement and process capability, which serve as the foundation for Core Processes like production and supplier development. These elements work together to build a company’s Competitive Advantage, whether through innovative products, pricing, or customer experience.
The map connects these layers to key business drivers—revenue, costs, capital investment, and risk. By demonstrating these pathways, the SVCM helps organizations see how sustainability efforts directly contribute to financial performance and strategic differentiation.
A key strength of this framework is its ability to make explicit the interdependencies between ESG factors and traditional business objectives. It shifts sustainability from being seen as a separate initiative to being fully integrated into business operations and decision-making processes.
The SVCM also provides clarity to decision-makers, enabling them to strategically prioritize efforts that deliver both business value and broader impact. This approach ensures that sustainability supports competitiveness, profitability, and long-term resilience.
This framework was developed by WholeWorks to support leaders in embedding sustainability into their organizational strategies.
