A new metric to track environmental impact beyond GHG emissions

Check out this new paper by Stockholm Resilience Centre on a prototype Earth system impact metric that accounts for cross-scale interactions. The metric uses planetary boundaries to back out the relative impact of land-use change in a given ecosystem and region at the global level. This could be a powerful metric for governments and investors alike and can help make the case for investing in the protection and restoration of #globalpublicgoods.

The study found that the Earth system impact of deforesting the Amazon rainforest was amplified by a massive 2.5 times.
